do you have server backend?
I would start with a simple class that has a main() method.

Everyone does database, this is not to discourage you. It is just that a program with a main does not have to have a server to connect to. If you have one already, then any of the three projects. All database projects have needs that factor to common ideas.

You can use any database you like. Oracle is a good back end software and its free. Just download the express edition and dont forget the oracle driver. About the project, all of them are fine. A little tip in choosing which project you would like, Take a lot of consideration in the time of development. ^_^ Make sure you have enough time to develop it and test it. =)

I agreed with Eku, Oracle is the best. Free and latest version have lots of bug fixes too. And also it's free. Easy to handling, specially partitioning.
