    How to verify that a web server was up and running, how would you do that? How to send some json in the body of your request,

    Simply open you browser and access the server using the correct address and port. If you have access to the server check to see if the port is active accepting request.

    do we have to ping or something like that and how do we send json in the body of the request?

    ping is for when you want to see whether a link to a computer in a network is good. it doesn't tell you whether that computer is running any web server or not.

    How do you want the json to be sent? what API are you using. An HttpUrlConnection? a library for REST client. please provide some more details.
