Can I delete/uninstall older versions of Java?
Hello,

I encounter some problems with java lately (programs that depend on java don't open). I just saw that I have a lot of "java" installed on my computer and wonder if I can just delete some of the older versions, which might help to get rid of my java problems. According to the "add/remove programs" list these are the java versions that are installed on my computer:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) 6 Update 5
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Since I'm totally lost here I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Ludwig

Only Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 version is the important one you have to use. All others are updates of it. Best thing is, if you can, remove all those and got to the Suns' official website and download the latest version of it.

I'm wonder here that why all updates are listed as new programs.

Did you use any Java IDE. Because IDE facilitates to updates the Java version easily. If you connect to the internet, IDE notify that if there is any updates you have take.

Thank you for your advice. I deleted the unnecessary java versions. Unfortunately it didn't resolve my problems. I will start a new thread with more detailed information about my Java problem.

Thank you anyway!
