Default Java on windows viable these days?

    Hi all,
I'm getting back into java after about 7 years doing C#, so I'm obviously a bit out of touch. I was wondering what everyone's opinion was about java performance on windows in 2012. In a very general sense, is Windows a viable platform for scalable java apps, or am I better off on Linux?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff

This would depend on the application I'm sure.

I mean you can, the performance will be fine and all, but most things are easier to set up and code when not on windows. With java being pretty consistent across platforms though, I doubt there is a huge difference if at all. Linux has a few more jvm choices, and working with the command line is much better in *nix, and installation of application servers and the like is a breeze, but again, all this is doable in windows too.

Personally, I wouldn't put my apps in anything but an Ubuntu server simply for the ease of setup, power, great command line, apt-get and preinstalled tools, not to mention the low overhead of a headless Linux system.
