Default Can someone give me some clue about this Paypal WSDL and webservice thing?

    Hi forum members,

Till now, I'm still struggling about this payapl ExpressCheckout and hope someone who has done something using Paypal SOAP api to give me some clue about how to go about doing things.

Basically, I'd like to know after adding the Paypal SOAP SDK library to the classpath, do I just create a web service or web service client or do I generate java classes based on paypal WSDL?

I'm using netbean IDE and Tomcat.

Your help is very much appreciated.

Your question is a little too vague, I'm guessing. Plus it probably depends on exactly what you're trying to do.

    Hi KevinWorkman,

    Let me try again.

To make things simple, I'd like to know if one's can generate java classes from a wsdl files?

Right now, paypal has a wsdl file at https://www.paypal.com/wsdl/PayPalSvc.wsdl

What happened is that I've just discovered about this while researching how to do this SetExpressCheckOut using Paypal SOAP Api.

Here's the steps that I've taken to do the SOAP interface with Paypal.

    I've created a project and then I select New-> File -> WebService

And then I put all my SetExpressCheckOut.java at the WebService folder.

But, and then following the Netbean tutorial, I'm supposed to do a deploy. But, the deploy just won't show up.

So, now I wonder do I just have to generate a java classes based on the WSDL?

Hope that my I'm clearer this time round and looking forward to hear from the experts. Thanks.

Yes, you can generate a client from a WSDL.
Both JAX-WS and Axis have tools to do this.

I'm guessing you are using the PayPal service, so you are not creating a Web Service project (unless that project itself is to produce a web service).
That's possibly where you are going wrong.

    OK.

I'm using this paypal SOAP API but I'm lost what I need to create at my end - whether I need to create a Web Service client?

Right now, I know there's paypal WSDL file available to me.

I read this line from the Maven Axis web site and I'm totally stump.

This plugin takes as input a WSDL and generates client and server stubs for calling or implementing a Web service matching the WSDL.

Hope someone can share with me a good tutorial on web service matching the WSDL is about.

    Thanks!

A quick read of the basics document and it seems the API is the web service, but the SDK is a prebuilt client?
At least that's what the samples look like.

Presumably the SDK has classes in it?

Either way, your are not producing a web service, so your project is not a web service project.
    You are a client.
Whether that client is generated from the WSDL or is part of the SDK all depends on what exactly is in the SDK.
