Problem with Java: Could not create java virtual machine

Hi.
Admittedly I am... Brand new to Java, and am working on learning the basics etc. But for now, I just want to get it working.
I recently uninstalled Java 6 to replace it with Java 7. The installation seemed fine, everything looked in order. Except I tried running a Java based exe and I keep getting the error message "Could not create Java virtual machine". I had a look on a few forums for some solutions but to no avail. Here is what I have tried so far:
.Uninstalling & Reinstalling Java 7.
.Installing both Java 7 online/offline.
.Reinstalling Java 6.
.Restarting Computer many, many times.

Java 6 worked perfectly. No problems whatsoever. So why Is it that now nothing works even when I returned it to Java 6?
I understand how much of an amateur I am with Java and programming in most languages, but, as I said before, I want to get it running before I start using it properly.

What exactly is a "Java based exe"? Java creates jar files, not exe files.

And what does this have to do with programming? Is it your program that you're trying to run?

Is it that you're trying to run Minecraft? If so then you may be in the wrong forum since this forum is for problems with creating and running programs you yourself have created.

I tried opening the game "minecraft".
