    Default String Polynomials

Hey everyone. So I need to take a string polynomial (such as : "4x^2 + 2x + 1") and pass to it values to get the values of 'y' at several points. I don't know how to have it take values of 'x' and equate that. Any idea how I can work with this?
    Thank you =]
