Making buttons for a button menu

So, im making a menu that displays buttons in the middle of the screen making a menu, I have a JFrame, JPanel, and a JScrollPane.
Im looking for a way of making buttons that display on the screen but go away once one is clicked, but at the same time i need to block all of my keys...I have no idea on where to start this.
