    Default Can Java do this?

I want to create an event driven application that is able to track projects for me. The information would be stored in a database, and would have a simple gui interface? I am thinking of writing this in either visual basic or Java. I would prefer to do this in Java, but I'm not so sure that the designer to create the interface is as easy to use as visual basic.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Yes. Don't use a gui designer. Learn Swing.

I am familiar with Swing, but thought that the designer would be faster. Don't you end up with the same results anyway?

Gui designers are not meant for beginners. They might seem faster, but as soon as you have to debug something (which will be about 5 minutes after you start), the gui designer is going to drive you nuts and make it pretty impossible for you to seek help. Up to you though.

Okay, thanks. I will go for it building with Swing. I'm still wondering however, if Java or visual basic would be the better,(faster), way to go.

That depends entirely on your skills. I don't know very much about VB, so I could do it faster in Java. But somebody who knew VB inside and out but didn't know any Java could probably do it faster in VB. Also, faster != better.

Seeing as a database is involved, I would do it in VFP. But that's just because I'm a dinosaur.
