Default Display Folder and contents as HTML links

Hi all, I don't know Java at all...and my IT guy suggested java could solve this problem for us:
We have files in a folder on a shared drive - these files change from time to time. I need a web page that will show the files and folders, and allow the user to click on the link to open the selected file. I don't want the user going to the network directory all the time, as there are many different versions of documents and we only want the latest (which are in particular folders). This is for users to access the most current procedure documents, without having to surf through various folders on the network.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

    Thanks

    JR

No one will write that for you.
And I think that would be better and easier to use php in this case.

While I don't expect anyone to write it for me, I would like a few examples, suggestions, websites etc that I can try out.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

You're describing version control, which has already been invented. Look at Subversion and Git (there are also suites which are focused around office type documents specifically). Developing this system from scratch would be a very large undertaking, and would cost you a couple hundred grand to pay someone to dev it for you (correctly). You might be able to hack something together, but seriously, I wouldn't do this. You know how easy it would be to destroy your data if you didn't know exactly what you're doing?
