Portfolio options
Hi all! So as a soon to be graduate with a BS in computer science I was hoping to build a portfolio to help my cause when trying to find a job.
So, what I would like to do is create a web-page portfolio and within that webpage show-off my different examples of some codes that I have created.
I'm looking for some challenging projects that can help show-off my skills.
I know HTML and some CSS so creating the webpage will come last, but for now I just need some ideas of different projects I can undertake to put into my portfolio webpage.

Re: Portfolio options
This isn't really a question that other people can answer. It's a bit like asking what you should have for dinner. We can tell you what we'd like to have, but it doesn't really help you all that much.
Find something outside of programming that you're interested in, then build a program around that. Or build a game of some kind. Or build something that a friend could use.How to Ask Questions the Smart Way

Re: Portfolio options
Employers love to see that you've published something, like an iOS or Android app/game. Beyond that, they might be more interested in the actual classes you've taken and any little code samples, unless you have some impressive code (like a fully functional compiler or something). What you show people will also be dependent on what job you're applying for. A banking company probably doesn't care about app you wrote that puts mustaches on people's faces, and likewise, the game company probably doesn't care much about your extensive oracle reporting skills. You are always better off showing targeted top quality work than throwing everything you can think of at every person you interview with. The extra stuff is just fluff in their eyes. Good luck!

Re: Portfolio options
Huh? That's not really how this works. Ask a specific question and post an SSCCE, and we'll go from there.

Re: Portfolio options
well can you at least give me an example or show me an article to help point me in the right direction. I'm not asking for you to give me the code for it, just some help to get me started

Re: Portfolio options
That's not really an answerable question. The best we can do for "how do I do this?" type questions is to point you to google or the basic tutorials, which we're going to find just by googling ourselves anyway. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's much easier to answer "I've tried XYZ and ABC happened, but I was expecting MNO instead, what happened?" questions instead.

Re: Portfolio options
Thats kind of like saying "can you help me build a computer from scratch real quick?". You cannot possibly tell someone how to make an iPhone or Android game on a forum post. It will require many many hours of reading/research trial & error and coding. A good place to start would be to pick your target platform, spend some time designing the concept, then expect ~3 months to learn and implement on said platform.anyway you can help me with going about creating an iOS or an Android app/game, because I have a few ideas

Re: Portfolio options
What quad64bit said. Plus, your original question was about creating a portfolio. No offense, but if you don't know step one, you're not ready to make a portfolio (which is fine!).
Think about it this way: programming is like an art. If an artist asked you how to create an art portfolio, you'd tell him to make some art that he liked and put it in a collection. But the artist shouldn't then say "okay, but how to I paint? Can you show me some examples?"How to Ask Questions the Smart Way
