Default imageIO and raw read data

I want to write a program that read a raw picture and then apply some filters on it.
I know that i have to install an extra plugin to get it to work.

But i dont know how to install the plugins and how to work with the plugin in eclipse :s

No you can use the ImageIO.read(String filepath) to read an image from the filesystem. Surround with try catch. Unless you meant Raw as in your camera allows you to store an image in the 'raw' format and the standard java packages dont read that format then im not sure...

I've never seen that extension. I don't know if java has any classes or methods for dealing with it.

Yeah so working with RAW is going to be a problem. The raw extension is used for images that contain raw sensor data from the camera's CMOS sensor - the problem is that almost no two camera use the same format. RAW isn't really a format in that it does not specify how the data should be stored or encoded, or read, etc... This is why adobe and apple have to push raw updates to their software every other day; every time a new camera comes out, it's RAW profile has to be added to the software in question to be understood. You might find a java lib for working with some RAW formats, but there is no such thing as a blanket RAW library for any language - only large collections of plugins for known camera models.
