    Default URLConnection

    Hello everyone,
    I'm trying to copy an html file to a string.
    My problem is that some of the notes are not copied well.
    Here is the source code:

    Truthly I couldn't find a single note that is not copied well(maybe because I'm tired) but when I copy 2 lines and search them in the reall source code, it not found it.
    So, is there any function that works with html and Strings?

    i think what he trying to say is when he try to copy the code,some of the symbol converted to undefined characters..i have no precise answer bcoz newbie in java..mayb u can use string.replace to replace the characters..for example:-

    Yea That's my error, but If I could know which characters wasn't replaced well that was good, but I don't. Anyone else? And thanks for the help


    Edit: after looking on the copied code looks like it reads it fine but it just skip some lines.

    I get the same thing when I do a url text dump in groovy as you did, I suspect the page is inserting that text with ajax, so when you try to scrape the page, that text doesn't exist yet. You would need a browser to evaluate the ajax first to get it to load the body. On the other hand, if you're just interested in scraping the content that is loaded via ajax, you might be able to call the ajax URL directly and scrape the content it returns

    The date line is just a single line of what i need.
    Thanks to you i understand the problem, the code reads the web source code before the Ajax code is executed.
    So maybe a sleep method might help?to let it execute the Ajax code? Anyway I will test it and let you know if it fixed it but if you got a solution (you said something about a browser but I didn't understand) I would like to hear it.

    When you are using a URL connection to grab text like that, you're not using a browser. Therefor, there is no javascript engine to execute the javascript (no ajax). However, ajax usually is just a javascript that points to a particular URL, grabs it's contents, and inserts it asynchronously into the current page. It might be possible if you can find that URL to use it to grab that data you need directly.

    But if not, then 'm afraid you'll have to try something else entirely, like outputting the HTML from a browser directly after it has been rendered. Perhaps your browser is scriptable?

    Which reminded me, Apache has a browser package (maybe on the apache commons site?) that creates a virtual browser programatically. I don't know if it evaluates javascript or not, but if it does, you might be able to use that!
