    Default usage of matrix and determinant

    May someone give me examples of usage of matrix and determinant in real softwares and application programs?

    Wings might fall off a plane in mid air; if determinants were zero GPS systems might fail and cause icbms to miss their target, but it's even worse: the 'real' determinant may be non-zero but the numerical approximation might be zero causing ill-conditioned optimization processes to fail. *shudder*
