    If javac isn't recognized that means you have to set the path. So at the command prompt type set path="C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin";
    after setting this path you can compile your programs.

    If you set an environment variable (such as the 'path' variable) in your running cmd.exe, the changes are local to that session; if the session terminates the changes are lost. You have to press the 'start' button and find the dialog somewhere to make those changes permanent.

    kind regards,

    Here's one way on XP:
    The PATH environment variable is set from the Settings | Control Panel | System panel.
    Select the Advanced tab and
    Click on the Environment variable's button.
    At the bottom in System Variables, find the PATH entry and click the Edit button
    Add the new path using ; to separate it
    Its a stupid small text field so be careful.

    hey, just try this....
    Right click on mycomputer->properties->advanced->environmental varibales->user varibles->new->give variable name:path and variable value:C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin;c:\windows\system32;
    now the path will set permnently and you can run the java program any where in your system.
