    hi Norman
    this is my new classpath

    CLASSPATH=C:\Windows\System32\QTJava.zip;C:\Progra m Files\JavaSTUDY;.

it is still running my first compiled programs.

but it is not recognising the java version command.

my saved programs with .java and .class extensions are in the same folder ( which I named as javaSTUDY)
during the compilation process the computer automatically saved the .class file in the same place.

Do you suggest I move the javaSTUDY folder to a different location? say desktop??

How are entering the -version option of the java command?
You should read the doc for the java command to get the correct syntax.

    Here is what I get:
    Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
    (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

    D:\Norms\Norms Tools>java -version
    java version "1.6.0_20"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_20-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 16.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

    D:\Norms\Norms Tools>

    aaaaaaa
    another party! its working!

    take a look norm.

    C:\Users\Ese.Ese-PC>java -version
    java version "1.6.0_26"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

    C:\Users\Ese.Ese-PC>

    Woo hoo... Thanks Doctor Norm.

I am abit confused about java document that I should actually read. all the materials I have just say '' java version''.
I have never really seen any material with the "-" sign in the java command like you suggested. ''java -version''

Where do I get doc for the java command for the correct syntax?? or probably the new and current changes made to java.??

    Thanks
