That link dark posted will be a good starting point, I'll also give you a link to a video I like. I also suggest you avoid ides, and use a simpler editor(notepad++, notepad, etc).

I think notepad++ is a good one to start with. It gives you some basic functionality like auto indenting which is nice while not really allowing you to cheat and skip out on some areas. Makes you get your hands dirty.

No need to worry, you haven't violated and rules (yet?) unless you've crossposted this all over the world in many different forums. Oh, and welcome to this forum.

    kind regards,

I recently finished Head First Java, Sunde recommended it to me a couple of months ago and I have to say it was by far my favorite introductory programming book. Its not conventional, and that's what makes it so useful.

There's a link in Sunde's signature, he reviews a lot of resources.

Here is a slightly out of date book recomendation post: Helping beginners get started. Sunde's Blog

The post has many similar books, however; at the time some were books I hadn't read, the newer one, which I wrote when these forums offered blogs, contains some more books that I have completed reading since the first post.
