Beginner

Hi All
I am new in Java and want to write my first program in Java but based on my research, before write a program i need to install some compiler,editor (command line or IDE) and set environment variables, i tried to search all these things but very confused regarding this, can someone provide me step by step process of do all these task . thanks

That link dark posted will be a good starting point, I'll also give you a link to a video I like. I also suggest you avoid ides, and use a simpler editor(notepad++, notepad, etc).

I think notepad++ is a good one to start with. It gives you some basic functionality like auto indenting which is nice while not really allowing you to cheat and skip out on some areas. Makes you get your hands dirty.

I recently finished Head First Java, Sunde recommended it to me a couple of months ago and I have to say it was by far my favorite introductory programming book. Its not conventional, and that's what makes it so useful.

There's a link in Sunde's signature, he reviews a lot of resources.
