    Default Java wont load

    Hi all,

I have just updated my java to version 26 and the problems started. I couldnt play any games on Pogo although i can get into the site when i click on a specific game the window would open for a second or two then close down.
I decided to uninstall java6 v26 and start again which i did however when i try to install i get this message....
"This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it"? and when i click "yes" i get this message.
"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed"
So I went back and installed java6 v17 which is now on my machine (windows 7 os) and even that wont run.
It is enabled but simply isnt being seen somehow, I hope this makes sense to someone here and you can help me as I feel that this may be a windows issue rather than java.

    regards,
    Doug.

    Default Tried.

    Hi dark,

I have uninstalled every spec of java both from the program files and the registry and there is not a trace left. Done this at least a dozen times now...

So i go to Pogo and try to load a game and of course it tells me that I need java to play the games so i downloaded the latest version as before and start to install it.

I then get the same old message........ "THIS SOFTWARE HAS ALREADY BEEN INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER. WOULD YOU LIKE TO REINSTALL IT"?

Now i know its gone but somewhere windows installer is getting screwed up, anyway i clicked on "yes" as i have done many times before and then the message says...
"THS ACTION IS ONLY VALID FOR PRODUCTS THAT ARE CURRENTLY INSTALLED"

Dark i have tried all the basic things to get this straightened out and i think that this is something different....

    regards,
    Doug.

    Dark,

going through one of the links i noticed that when i type in service.msc as below a service window is supposed to open. I got nothing...

•Check that Windows Installer service is not disabled.

1.Click Start and type service.msc in the Search box and press Enter.

2.The Services window is opened. Right-click on ‘Windows Installer’ service, then click ‘Start’. The service needs to start without any errors.

3.Now try to install or uninstall your program again. If it persists, try the next fix.

I have now tried every suggestion from the link sent and i am thinking that this is more than likely a windows registry issue. Can I use my windows 7 installation disc or the system repair disc that i made when installing to fix the registry because nothing basic is working.

    regards,
    Doug.

Of course you can use the installation disc if you are interested in wiping the whole thing and re installing windows. This will give you a clean install though and you should be able to easily install the version of java you want.

Yes, i should be able to load java but now it wont let me install the latest version because it says that its there and then the next window says that i need to install it, then is says i cant install it.... I can install an earlier version but it still wont run any java based games. I am also seeing now that when i open IE8 after an hour it is saying that IE is not my default browser and do i want to make it my default browser when its the only browser that i have...

    regards,
    Doug.

I thought you were talking about wiping the drive and reinstalling windows. This may be easier then finding and fixing any problems you caused(if you aren't confident invoke skills), if you do decide to do this, make sure you back up important stuff(music, movies, pictures, etc), check that you have the proper installation disc and re install.

After a clean install you should be able to easily download a new version. Others however may have better solutions if you feel like waiting.

No, not starting over. With WinXP you could install windows from the disk over a copy causing problems and it would simply install windows and leave all your files and prorams alone but im not sure about 7 i'll look into it because nobody appears to know or have seen the issues that i am having and as much as i know that i will figure it out it is always great to come into these forums and learn from others and I am sure that I am not the firdt with ths issue.

    regards,
    Doug.

Windows 7 calls that the repair option. It compares all your current computer settings with the default ones and replaces them if they are different. I've never used it, but it might be worth a try.

Or you could try using YL Software Its pretty powerful so be careful on how you use it. Also running Crap Cleaner is a free Windows 7 crap cleaner to help you clean privacy and speed up computer. might clear up some of your problems.

    Default Fixed

Finally after slaving over this darned thing for a few days all is well.
I remembered making a "System Repair Disk" when installing Windows 7 so i popped that it the drive, reinstalled windows over the top of the damaged copy and i now have a perfect registry again and it didn't touch my files, programs or settings so all went well.
I had started to suspect the registry after seeing that I could not install Win7 SP1 and I couldn't use system restore to name but a couple of issues and unlike WinXP this was a simple fix in 7.
I want to thank everyone that assisted with this problem and hope that i never have the opportunity to chat with you again, but then again we are talking microsoft so same time next month?

I would suggest looking at the website of those who produce the software you're having a problem with first, they normally have FAQ's and guides on how to make everything work already. We can try to help, but we are programmers not really tech support guys so our knowledge is some what more limited than the tech support paid by the software company.
