Installing Java
Hi. I would really like some help setting up Java on my computer.
Thing is. I installed Java. It is listed in "add/remove programs" but thats the ONLY place. There is NO other trace of Java and no java application works.
So I uninstalled, installed Internet Explore 7 and then Java again and still the same problem.
Except now I can't even go to "java.com" without getting a 404. (checked it, works fine for my friends but not me)
I tried rebooting, installing without antivirus, several supposed "fixes". But no luck.
How do you install Java? What can be buggin it?

I have no idea why you would not be able to get to a particular site after install, but there are two flavors of Java - the client and the development tools. The client doesn't show up anywhere but My Computer and Control Panel.
If you look at C:\Program Files\Java\ you should have a bunch of stuff installed.
Now, if you are looking to develop, download JDeveloper or Eclipse and they'll let you write code that uses the Java you downloaded. Just make certain you have the JDK (Java Development Kit) installed.
If you're not looking to develop, then just go to a site with a Java applet on it to check if you're installed correctly.
Hope that helps,
Don.

Like I said. I haven't. The files are there alright, on the drive. But it does not show up in the controls panel, msconfig has no mention of it, and no java site works.

I'm shooting in the dark, but willing to help if possible...
Try running ie and looking at Tools|Manage Add-Ons. In the list it generates should be "Sun Java Console". Do you see it?
