Advice on which java books to buy
I am looking to buy a java book or two but am unsure which I should get since there are so many out there. I have read one java book which is Java: Introduction to Problem Solving and Programming (5th Edition) by Savitch/Carrano. I only know java launguage for now but will start learning about the C++ in 1 week when I have free time. I will be starting college in 4 months to get bachelors in computer science in hopes to become a computer software engineer. Any suggestions on what java books to buy?

I cant say I mastered the book but I can say it made me pretty good at java. I understand all the basic concepts, the only topics I need some practice with is I/O, data structures, and recursion(that were covered in the book). I also want to learn how to write better code. It was the book that I used at my school in Java 1 and java 2(The school has 3 java courses I only took 2). Thanks for the recommendation.

Oh OK. But there questions don't touch Java. You can find the answers on there questions in books by Steve Mcconnel Steve McConnell's Home Page I think It is the best books about development.

I agree with petr as to the recommendation on effective java, I've been learning java for about 7 months now and don't consider myself an expert, but I do feel fairly knowledgeable and confident, and I can easily recommend effective java. I actually just finished my first read through of this book about 4 hours ago. All the items are helpful and really gives you a lot of things to pay attention to when designing classes. It also shows areas where security flaws can occur and how best to prevent them.
I have a list I love to give people rather than write lengthy posts everytime. It Ives my advice on good java books, c++, and other language books.
