    Post Dear Community

    I am seeking someone who is knowledgeable in Java 6 SE and is willing to have general conversation (Over IM, FBChat, or Skype) with someone who is learning Java on their own. I am currently teaching myself Java 6 SE in Eclipse and am in the beginning stage of learning the language I have never programmed before but am a very computer inclined person (I know how to work the damn computer and how it works LoL) I hope to program android apps someday, anyway is there anybody out there that is willing to talk about Java Programming, I don't want anybody to teach it to me just verify that what I have learned is correct and that i'm going in the right direction if you will. Thanks Community

    P.S. Sorry for the classified type post
    :)

    Why not just use the new to java forums? If you use them you will get multiple people checking each other(if one person says something that isn't quite correct they will be corrected by another user).

    Even if you have a small question it will be fine to ask in the new to java forums.

    Most people here are friendly. I'd love to help you out, but I believe it would be best for you to use the forums for questions.

    Ok so I would like to know,

    if a Boolean is a True/False test of a value an example being "while ( x < 10);"
    then how does "boolean p1isRight = false;" work out I guess i don't understand why boolean is declared and a value being set as false maybe i'm way off or missing some information but i have found myself confused with this idea.

    public class GuessGame {
    Player p1;
    Player p2;
    Player p3;
    public void startGame() {
    p1 = new Player();
    p2 = new Player();
    p3 = new Player();
    int guessp1 = 0;
    int guessp2 = 0;
    int guessp3 = 0;
    boolean p1isRight = false;
    boolean p2isRight = false;
    boolean p3isRight = false;

    I'm not sure what you are asking so here goes...

    A boolean variable is used when you need to control something that has 2 distinct states. For example a light switch.
    Java Code:
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        boolean light = true; // true means light is on
        someMethod(light);
        light = false; // false means light is off
        someMethod(light);
    }

    public static void somMethod(boolean lightIsOn) {
        if(lightIsOn) {
            System.out.println("The light is on!");
        } else {
            System.out.println("The light is off!");
        }
    }

    That does clear up some confusion for me I understand now why you would declare "boolean something = false;" the rest of my confuse but this code/idea will make sense as I read on in my books i'm very sure. :) I really appreciate the help :) and sorry for the confusing question :)

    It was a bit unclear but junky seems to have given you some good advice.

    When you see something like while(x < 10) it means to do something while the expression in parentheses evaluates to true.
