Related to web applications I think viewPort means the region of a frame to be displayed, may be on an applet or any other web application.

On your first question, as ShoeNinja says, where you are migrating. I'm FireFox user and don't know about IE well. Say about your issues, and i'll tel you know what I know.

i am migrating my application from IE6 to IE7. My form( on lower portion of the screen) is overlapping with the tabs which are on the upper portion of the screen. Also, the height of the text area is decreasing on IE7.

For editing/creating web pages use Adobe Dreamweaver.
It will clearly tell you the compatibility & problems according to the browser.

That's a good point. If you use the latest version of dreamweaver, you can avoid such problems easily. At the development time you can see what happened on the browser.

Using DreamWeaver you can find the compatibility issues easily without manual interventions.
