    Default easiest ide to install

    Hi,
I did some work with Java Applets years ago and now want to begin to learn Java properly. I tried loading an old SDK from disk but found it did not work. Tried adjusting Path and Classpath. Getting this type of error:
    load: class Greeting.class not found.
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Greeting.class

Have now removed SDK. Anyone advise as to easy ide to install? Any info on classpath / path welcome too. Anxious to get started with my Java book....
    Thanks
    I.

I suggest you learn to compile run from the command line for a bit at first, I am going to post a link to a video which installs the jdk and compiles a hello, world program. I believe one of the most popular IDE's is eclipse, I am currently using notepad++ and cmd compiling which isn't very difficult.

Also, out of curiosity, what book did you get?

    load: class Greeting.class not found.
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Greeting.class
Are you sure that's what the error message was? I think not.

Copy and paste the actual error message to get meaningful help.

You're welcome, when I started I used that video to install the JDK and it was incredibly helpful. If you are done, please mark your thread solved with the thread tools.
