    an array of 'BufferedImage' objects? Buffered images aren't serializable, however, if you get turn each image into a byte array, you can simple write the bytes to a file and load them back in later.

    import java.awt.image.BufferedImage;
    import java.io.File;
    import javax.imageio.ImageIO;

    File file = new File("image.jpg");
    BufferedImage img;
    img = ImageIO.read(file);

    Then you have methods like img.getRGB() which returns an integer array.
    I guess that's what you need to manipulate the values to binary or integer.
    ImageIO.read will read most common imagefile-types (BMP, JPG, et.c)

    I hope this was useful.
