    Default Cant unistall and reinstall

I have a problem! After deleting old versions with JavaRa, I couldn't update, even with JavaRa.
    I got a message about a RegUtils.dll that didn't work or couldn't be opened.
So I tried to reinstall from jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe. Got a message that this software is already installed, tried to reinstall, didn't work ...
Read in Internet that I should try to remove Java folders from "Program Folders" and "Program Folders\Common Files" and also HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\Java from the Registry, and then install, I did delete the folders but no such Registry entry was found.
Actually, I had backed up folders to another partition, for safety, so I put them back.
    Same problem after that.
Tried Revo Uninstaller as suggested in the Internet. Removed a lot.
    But I still cannot install!!!
The d... message that the software is already installed still comes back and then I cannot install, even though it asks if I want to reinstall and I confirm, it just doesn't go on and stops itself after trying again ...
WHAT CAN I DO NOW!!! To 1) get rid of Java SE remnants and 2) reinstall it?

Please help! You make me happy when you do ...

I use Windows XP SP3 and have IE8, Firefox and Opera.

I tried to uninstall java updates (or versions?) using MSICUU.exe. It didn't help. The same problem again.

Then I found an installation file jre-6u23-windows-i586.exe (instead of ...6u24...) and tried it. To my astonishment it did install!!!

But now I somehow have TWO updates parallel ... in the Java Control Panel it says under "About": Version 6 update 24, but under Java Runtime Environment Settings I now have TWO entries:
    Platform-Product---------------Path
    ---1.6---1.60_24---D:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe
    ---1.6---1.60_23---D:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_23\bin\javaw.exe

    I have WinXPSP3 installed in D:\

And then I also have under Documents and Settings\[my name]\Application Data\Sun\Java TWO folders: jre1.6.0_23 and jre1.6.0_24 (and also folders AU, Deployment and a file jinstall.cfg.

Isn't this now redundant? Even though Java now works. Should I better delete some files and/or folders here?

The treacherous thing is that when I want to reinstall version 24 - and according to the Internet others have that problem, too - it gives a message: "This software has already been installed... " and then OFFERS the option to REINSTALL, but never does it... it doesn't keep that promise... "lyware"...

Sometimes one may also get the message: "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." But it is installed!!! The "lyware" merely pretends that it isn't. So then you can never reinstall once it is already there? However faulty it may be, you still have to live with it?

Or, attempting to uninstall (and some other occasions, too), you get a message: "Error 2753. RegUtils.dll." This again seems common according to the Internet, but no real solution is offered and none is found (some "offered" don't work generally but apparently only for a few).

My suggestion that I "accidentally" discovered is: Try to install a somewhat earlier version - that can then be updated. But then you may also have to live with remnants of older versions...

By the way: My Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs" lists only "Java (TM) 6 Update 23" even though the Java applet there claims that it is version 24... again "lyware"...

Obviously these things are really BUGGY and need to be worked over by Oracle!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!

It appears that the regutils.dll error is known since quite a long time, BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS BUG! See Bug ID: 6645033 Internal Error 2753. regutils.dll - While Re-installing JRE6u10
    What a shame!
