    Default Running out space for object heap

    I have a AMD 64bit box with 4GB of RAM, overall i have around 3G+ worth of Free RAM. I try to run a java program and wanted to set the following settings:

    $ /usr/local/jdk-1.7.0/bin/java -Xms128M -Xmx1024M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M test
    Error occurred during initialization of VM
    Could not reserve enough space for object heap
    Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine.
    Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

    I have no idea why it says that it could not reserve enough space, whereas I have around 3GB or RAM for java to play with. Can anyone help me? :confused:

    Whenever I get this error, it almost always means that I have an infinite loop or infinitely recursing method somewhere. You probably do, too.
