    Thanks for that.

    The javaw executable also demands the -jar parameter like you were using with java. Am I right in assuming that when you used "Run as..." to make the association that you didn't get a chance to say it should be -jar? If that's the case then I'm pretty sure that Jarfix is setting the association properly: ie with the -jar.

    You're welcome!
    I come here asking for help, but I also keep searching and if I find the answer I write it because someone down the line may be stuck like me and a search would help them...

    No, its not that because in my searches I came across a way to see if double clicking the jar file is sending the -jar parameter, to check it do this in the command line:
    >assoc .jar
    .jar=jarfile

    >ftype jarfile
    jarfile="C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*
    (the first part is what you type and the second line is what you should get back)

    here's a link to the page if you want a long explanation than the simple one i wrote above:

    Ah good! Was hoping that would help someone in future and it did!

    Was surfing around and found something else that is interesting, and which I would like to share with everyone:
    Do a search on "mafiaafire" in your preferred search engine ;)
