    Default questions regarding XML

    Greetings,

question 1 - will show just how much of a newbie I am -

Regarding "opening" / "loading" an XML file -

I have seen it done in Visual Basic and have been searching around for examples -

Are XML commands the same for Visual Basic and JAVA - meaning are XML commands like a language of their own and not "JAVA" commands to do XML work? - I know XML is the format - but are XML commands like a language of its own?

    - make sense?

    2) How can I load or open an XML file that exists on the web?

I have found some examples where the file lives on your hard drive.

Can you show me a an example for loading / opening the file from the web? -

    3) Regarding an XML file I'm thinking of a text file - is this wrong way to think about it? - Is it correct to say "opened" or are XML files loaded?

    Thanks
    Sparky

What XML command are you talking about? XML is a markup language, simply a way you can store data on your own way.

In scanning what I saw from VB and JAVA - I see statements dealing with XMLNode / Children, elements and so on.

I don't know enough (yet) to say.

Okay, those are not XML command, those are language specification command used in different languages. But most them are define commonly.

If you do need to work with XML in java though, I've found SimpleXML to be a pretty nice parser. It matches java objects to elements, which allows for some pretty nice manipulation. It can both parse and generate XML, from local or remote sources.
