After installed Tomcat 404 error occured
i have installed Tomcat 5.5 and gave url http://localhost:8080 then tomcat home page is displayed.when I clicked TOMCAT MANAGER,a separate window is displayed.it is asking for username and password. but I did not set username and password while installlation.after 3 times clicking 404 error is displayed and it says "you are not authorised person to view this page".how to rectify this.
please help me....

Did you read the documentation? Here's what Tomcat version 6.0 has to say about it. The lesson here is: always RTFM.

you must edit your tomcat-users.xml in the folder drive:\tomcat-root\conf. roles and users should not been between <!-- and -->, otherwise the would be interpreted as comments. before you edit your file, make a copy of the original one. by the way: the current version of tomcat is 7.0.6
