Default Accidentally went to a drive by site

Hi all, I play the Java MMO Runescape, and have been going to some fansites to read up on how to make money ingame etc.

I went to one which (from it's url via google) claims to be a merchanting site (making ingame money from buying low selling high).

However, when I clicked it, it loaded a fake Java applet and asked me if i wanted to run it.
I clicked cancel and closed the page.

Now, having done a bit of googling I'm now aware of these so called "drive bys" that download files pretending to be Java if you choose to Run from the applet. None of the sites I've visited however tell me what happens if you click cancel, they don't say if you're still infected or not.

So to sum up, if anyone has any experience of drive bys, can you please tell me, if I didn't click "run" on the applet, am I safe?

    Thanks :)

P.S, sorry if this is indeed the wrong forum, but it seemed like the best place to post it

I could write an applet to erase your machine or worse. Never click run on anything you don't trust, as you are giving explicit permission to modify things. Might be unlikely, but still.

Thanks but that didn't answer my question.
If I didn't click run, am I safe?

No, you're never safe, and no, this isn't the right forum for this discussion.

Don't worry I'll bother you no further.

Thanks for being so friendly and helpful. Oh wait, scratch that last bit.<
