Hi - Welcome to Java :)
I am also relatively new to the language, and from my learning experience, I would say, having one or two books to read is always essential. When I started, I looked at the Java Tutorials a lot, and once I started learning about Classes and Collections, I started to look more into the java API. I will paste both links here for you.
To begin, I started by writing small programs, and doing very basic exercises from books. Keep moving forward from there, don't stop, and soon you will be programming more complex problems. And since you are part of this forum, you can ask questions related to Java anytime and there will be a lot of folks who will help you.

Here's a good website I used when I first started off programming:
Introduction to Computer Science using Java
I'd say this website is one of the best, although, I'll admit, it's pretty bland, but it's worth the boring to get such great knowledge about the Java programming language.
Well, I personally like the Head First series from Kathy and Bert.
But frankly speaking, you need to go for the book which would suit your style of learning. Every author is having it's own style of teaching. So first, you would have to finalize some good books out of the many available online, then you would have to go through them [kind of overview] and select the one which suits you the best.
The links provided above by user0 and Fortu are also good for starting.
Wish you Luck,
think you for answering so fast,it means a lot to me
