so what do I do!
Thanks so much for this by the way. I doubt it will work after all I've tried but I do tend to be pessimistic.

I'll look into it, but please download the images so you can redo them if needed.
I can't upload them all night I, will need to shutdown my computer in while and try to resurrect my graphics card. I't died when I installed my new hard disc; I think I need a new power supply.

OMFG!
I was trying to fix not being able to open java apps I downloaded when I found in my registry edit I couldn't make a key called ".jar" or ".jarfile" cos there was allready a key named .jar under a random itunes parent folder. I couldnt delete it, rename it, export it, change the permissions or anything because I didn't have permission. When I deleted its parent folder it survived.
Is this the root of my problem? Have I been registry hacked? how can I fix this? Or is it normal and unrelated?!

If you don't mind I think you can have someone to Remote Assist (the windows support although I don't know how to do it) to troubleshoot online. I know some IM software may also embed the remote assistance function that you may call help from someone.
But unfortunately not me as I have no idea of this issue either.
Or a very very fooly last chance is to reinstall your system from the beginning, and then install java things before any other. I think you just want to run java so no need to install JDK, just JRE is OK.

Could you try following (I am not running Vista but it may still be valid):
At windows start menu, Start->Run->Cmd. A black window occurs, then.
Type following command in the black command window:
java -jar <path of the jar file>
For example, if you jar file is located as D:\YourDir\YourJar.jar, then type command as following:
java -jar "D:\YourDIr\YourJar.jar"
If it does not work, post the message giving in the black command window so that I or someone can have a look.

thats what I get. Something to do with a registry glitch/hack I think.
I need to fix this somehow! I cant access or change the permissions or delete or anything either Jarfile or .jar registry keys.

Please make sure the path of the JAR file is correct.
I do notice you did not type the ":" mark after "C"
If I read it well, the command should be
java -jar "C:\Users\......\Item list.jar"
Also make sure the file name "Item list" is correct. Does it have a slash or under-slash between Item and List?

A bit of an unrelated post: OP, stop bumping several minutes after your last post. Some of your bumps were only two minutes apart. We can't man this forum 24/7, nor can anyone. Give us some time to reply.
