I am quite new to Java too, and I think the best way to learn Java is to read a book. In my opinion no sites are better than book about Java. But, If you want to learn Java from website you should take a look to this site. Until I bought the book, I had learned from this site.

Oracle's Tutorial does a very good job of describing the breadth of Java.
