Java JRE 6 Update 21 - 22 RS Problem

When I upgrade Java 6 Upd 21 to 22 or 23, I begin to encounter problems with any page on my company's website that employ Remote Scripting.

Looking through the release notes, I'm not seeing anything relevant that seems like it would affect remote scripting.

With the Java Console up and set to log everything, none of the messages specified in the release notes appear.

I could really use some help, as I've been scratching my head for two days, thanks very much.

Did you comes with any error?

Just a 'Failed to create ASP object for: http://mysite/editCode.asp'.

At the top of the page, I have:

404 Error. Are you sure that page is exist?

Yes. It works like a charm if I reinstall update 21.

EDIT: If you're getting a 404, that's because it's an intranet site, apologies.

Okay, the next things is what your page has to do with Java. Seems to me it's asp (.net) page with some JS.

Java is the only thing that changed, so it's something Java-related that has caused this to stop functioning properly. All other things are held constant, except for the Java JRE update, therefore, something contained in the update is causing a problem for me.

So nobody is aware of any impact on remote scripting on ASP/JScript websites due to Java JRE updates? Because I assure you, there is one.

I don't think so. I'm using .Net environment and have up to date related with Java. I don't have any issues at all.

If you can try another simple script and run in your PC.

As you stated, I can confirm that this is an issue. I'm experiencing the same thing with the latest releases. JRE 6.20 is the last version that worked. 21,22 and 23 do not.

I was going to say in 1.6 update 22 Oracle changed the vendor String from "Sun" to "Oracle". This had minor problems like causing eclipse to not work at all. Something to do with the native boot up wrapper would inspect the java -version output I guess and look for the words "Sun" in the label. So it might be possible something whacky like that is effecting this here for you too.

But that was update 22, you say it wasnt working since update 21. which was still Sun branded. so this might not be it then.

Is there such a bad string comparison?

Well, this sounds promising, as 21 still works for me, yet 22 breaks.

Where would this string comparison typically take place, so I can see if this is indeed the problem?

Probably in the native component that launches the Java VM, or in the startup logic somewhere where it is discovering the Java VM to be used for running the script.

Let see, and what you really means.

No luck finding said string comparison anywhere.

Unless of course someone out there in internet land knows a step-by-step approach to finding/changing that sort of thing?

Also, I implore bored people the world over to try and get the aforementioned example running using a Java JRE newer than 6.21.

This is still an issue.

Any fresh ideas out there?
