    I am actually having the same issue. The only thing that will work is if i access the site using the ip address instead of the server/dns name. It's hard to believe that this isn't affecting many developers using remote scripting.

    im pretty sure this is a problem with the ASP.NET component that attempts to integrate or invoke the Java VM inside its JScript component. Would there be some forum specific to that product that might have more insight to this ?

    I am experiencing the same problem since update 22 RS stopped working... Now with 23 the problem still occurs. I know this happened once in the past but one update later it was fixed so no worries now we are 2 updates along and still the RS doesn't work... We can not keep controlling our customers environments like that so any suggestions are welcome. I will look for some string comparison on Sun myabe that will help.

    Sorry I forgot to mention that I am using classic ASP with remote scripting just like the OP.

    In trying to troubleshoot this, I narrowed it down this this function in rs.htm. The bolded function call returns a -1.

    //************************************************** ***************
    // function RSGetASPObject(url)
    // This function returns a server object for an ASP file
    // described by its public_description.
    //************************************************** ***************
    function RSGetASPObject(url)
    {
    var cb, ecb, context;
    var params = new Array;
    var request = MSRS.startRequest(url,'GetServerProxy',params,cb,e cb,context);
    //alert(request.data); // USED FOR DEBUG
    if (request.status == MSRS_COMPLETED)
    {
    var server = request.return_value;
    if (typeof(Function) == 'function')
    {
    for (var name in server)
    server[name] = Function('return MSRS.invokeMethod(this.location,"' + name + '",this.' + name + '.arguments);');
    }
    else
    { // JavaScript 1.0 does not support Function ( IE3.0 )
    for (var name in server)
    server[name] = eval('function t(p0,p1,p2,p3,p4,p5,p6,p7,p8,p9,pA,pB,pC,pD,pE,pF) { return MSRS.invokeMethod(this.location,"' + name + '",this.' + name + '.arguments);} t');
    }
    server.location = url;
    return server;
    }
    alert('Failed to create ASP object for : ' + url);
    return null;
    }

    That's interesting,

    I read this from update 22, the function in bold used the url, maybe that has something to do with it? I haven't got any closer. keep me posted ;)

    CVE-2010-3560

    The fix for CVE-2010-3560 could cause certain Java applets running in the new Java Plug-in to stop working if they are embedded in web pages which contain JavaScript that calls into Java in order to perform actions which require network security permissions. These applets may fail with a network security exception under some circumstances if the name service which resolved the original web page URL host name does not return a matching name as the result of a reverse address lookup. This is most likely to occur for the new Java Plug-in running on Solaris and Linux when configured to use NIS for host to network address resolution with maps containing host names which are in short form (rather than as a fully qualified domain name).

    If an applet is suspected of failing due to this change you can verify that by setting the logging level of the Java Console to 5 and looking for logging strings beginning with "socket access restriction" which will describe the specific cause of the mismatch and will help in identifying the correct workaround to use as described below:

    * Add a new host name forward map entry (in /etc/hosts, NIS, or DNS) in a special form which is recognized by Java for the purpose of validating IPv4 and IPv6 name service mappings.
    * The IPv4 general name form followed by an /etc/hosts file fragment example for IP address 10.11.12.13 is:

    host.auth.ddd.ccc.bbb.aaa.in-addr.arpa

    # /etc/hosts example
    10.11.12.13 foo.bar.com.auth.13.12.11.10.in-addr.arpa

    There is an equivalent form for IPv6 addresses which uses the IP6.ARPA domain root format defined in RFC 3596.

    For DNS, these would be A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6) entries.
    * Pre-pend a fully qualified host name before other mappings to the same address. For example, in /etc/hosts format:

    #10.11.12.13 foo loghost
    10.11.12.13 foo.bar.com foo loghost

    As an alternative to updating name service records, it may be possible to safely modify the applet to perform the network action using only it's own permissions independent of the web page which contains it by using the doPrivileged() method of the java.security.AccessController class.

    We have been having the same problem with PCs updated to Java 6.23. (ie: goes from working to not working after 23 is installed)
    Web site based on classic .asp with RemoteScript, vbScript and JScript running in microsoft IIS, IE 8, no asp.net present. User access the site via login to remote proxy, site set as Trusted get Java "Authentication Required" challenge when doing some operations. leading to failure in remotescripting.

    Hi, I use an app called Axway FTDirect. I am having the same issue 21 works, 22 and 23 do not. If I run the java debugger I get this error. I'm not a programmer so most of this is nonsense to me. I've made Axway aware and they are working on it as well. Would sure like to get this resolved as its holding up a deployment:

    java.security.PrivilegedActionException: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: White spaces are required between publicId and systemId.

    Caused by: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: White spaces are required between publicId and systemId.
