    Default Random selection of words

    Hi all

At my work I need a simple application with GUI, a "Lunch Generator".
We usually pick between three options for lunch every day, and when it's hard to decide, we could use some simple assistance ;)

Thus, I want to implement an option to type in three words describing the three menus. When I press a button ("Select" etc.), the program makes a random selection between the three given inputs and comes with an output. It should run this cycle for 3 seconds for example.

Moreover, it would be nice to graphically show that the program cycles between the options and highlights the one it chooses.

    Anyone? :)

So are you asking someone to write this app for you? :D
You mean to tell me you dont want to figure this awesome language out?! :)

Btw I am new to this language and I am excited to say that I could write this app now. I am the book Sams Teach Yourself Java in 25 hours. There is 25 chapters / lessons / hours and I am at 15. By this chapters end you can write an app as you say. By 9 without GUI.

So what exactly are you asking here? Do you need help with a certain part of coding? Or do you want someone to write you an app?

Start smaller. Get it working on the command prompt first. Then worry about a GUI.

Which part of this are you having trouble with? Getting input? Storing String values? Choosing one of them at random? And what do you mean by "run this cycle for 3 seconds"? You mean like a slot machine?

Like I said, worry about the graphical part of it AFTER you get the logic down.

Thank you both for your quick replys.

I need this app "in an instant". I haven't coded Java for a couple of years, and back then I never created anything that resembles of what I need. I'm pretty sure that it is simple, but to be honest, I'm too busy doing general project management at my work that I don't have the time to re-learn Java right now. Therefore, I am looking for a basic solution that works well. I have trawled the web with no luck, which wonders me deeply.

And yes, by "run this cycle for 3 seconds" I mean like a slot machine - that the user will be able to see it visually. My plan is to do the visual stuff myself - except for the "slot machine"-like gimmick.

    Thank you.
