    Never eat exceptions like this. Not that it is the cause of your problem, but you should at the least printStackTrace().

    Also your indentation style is pretty non-standard.

    That's a good point. I didn't see that, I though the catch clause wrap the complete code segment that OP has posted. Unclear formatting. :(

    The first line of your code to feature in the stack trace, mentioned in both posts, is line 256 of CompressorUI.java. I'd start looking there.

    If I attempt to parse to int "", that's an error. If this error is in a loop, would the loop finish first before the program aborts?

    The exception will cause the current code to cease executing and to jump to a catch block, or a finally block, or to exit the method.

    Your error message complains about that, if you look at it carefully you can find the empty string.
