Java is not recognized as an internal or external command.

Hello guys.

Recently I have been trying out private servers to go on, I download them and do all that stuff. But then when I click to run them I get a black box that appears saying:

"java is not recognized as an internal or external command"

I have Java installed because I can use other games but I'm not sure wha is wrong here. This never used to happen for me, but now it happens for every server I try. I really need some help.

Here are my variable things:

CLASSPATH: .;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\lib\ext\QTJava.zip

PATH: C:\j2sdk1.5.0_04\bin;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C: \WINNT\system32\Wbem;c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG


Could somebody please tell me if I need to edit them and what to put into them, or if I need to uninstall Java.

Open a command prompt window and enter: java -version
What do you see? Here's what I see:

How do you "use" them? What kind of files are involved and what do you do with them?

It says I am clicking on a "Windows Command Script"

When I go on command prompt windows and enter: Java -version is says Java is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

And when I mean use, I went onto Runescape because I know that uses Java, and I can play that fine, and any other game that says made with Java or compatible with.

Can you look at the file extensions for the files you are working with.
What is the extension for the "Windows Command Script"?
What is the extension for the file that you use to go onto Runescape?

RuneScape is an applet, not a downloaded application.

How do I look at these file extensions?

If you don't know what I file extension is, then the rest of what I'll suggest will be lost on you.
Do you know a programmer that could help you.
