    Default cannot compile the programme

    Hi ,
I have the following installation on my system. C:\Program Files\Java . Under this is installed " j2re1.4.2_04 " and "jre1.5.0_04" . I am running the command Javac , but it is giving me error " javac is not recognised as an internal or external command ,... " . Is JDK different from what is installed in my system?

    Default

    Under this is installed " j2re1.4.2_04 " and "jre1.5.0_04"
so you don't have JDK? First install JDK to use javac(which means complie this .java program into Java bytecode). And for the question, simply to say, yes JDK(Java Development Ki) and JRE(Java Runtime Environment) are different.

    -regards
