    I am new to JAVA. I want to know the equivalent of "char *" in JAVA.

    Note that Java doesn't support pointer arithmetic so the closest you can get is byte[] (an array of bytes). The 'char' type in Java can store 16 bit quantities, it is similar to the wchar_t in C++.
