New to Java *update*
I'm still very new to Java (and programming) but I've decided I'd like to give a simple game a try. Now, I'm not sure whether it would be smarter to make a game with a very simple Swing GUI or to make one that is text based. Could I get some suggestions on which you think would be the smarter solution and why? I'm not so interested in which will be the easier solution but which one will be the most beneficial to my learning of Java.
Well, I'll put in my two cents but the decision is ultimately up to you.
If you're looking to get into programming in general, I would tend to lean toward doing a text-based game. That will allow you to focus more on the inner workings of Java and the actual syntax & programming logic.
If, instead, you want to develop a knowledge of how to create GUI applications, going with a Swing game would be more beneficial.
However, since you are new to Java, I would go with the text-based for the aforementioned reasons. Having said that, the decision is yours--this is just my personal opinion!
Good luck! ;)
Maybe the snake game or a lottery
you must understand about Object Oriented Programming, then you try to make little code as exercise.
i think tic-tac-toe is simple game for u, try it...
Programming, News, Marketing, Health...: Programming
You could give the Oracle (i've finally got round to renaming them in my head...) tutorials a go, assuming you have some programming knowledge. They're a reasonable jumping off point. If you're completely unaware of software terminology then they may be a bit of a leap for you.
That link's for the real basics. There is also the Big List of all the tutorials, but I can't seem to grab that link...blimmin Oracle, worse servers than Sun had!
Thank you for the help everyone. Much appreciated.
