look guys, im taking goffys side here. This forum section is new to java, so hes not going to understand as much as you guys. I personally don't know much about java and havn't used this updateUI but i do use a layout manager and agree that is what is needed.
"I hope that you never become a professional programmer or my physician." bit harsh and unnecessary really.

Being new to Java does not imply that you can get away with a bad hack that more or less solves a problem for now. If you post bad code on a forum expect criticism (on the code, not on you); if you're showing a thin skin expect to be even more critisized. You need to have a thick skin; if you don't, don't ever go to the Sun Java forums because there are entire legions of very knowledgeable people (*) who can give you solid advice but all can be extremely harsh if you're showing an attitude like the OP did.

    kind regards,

    Jos

(*) I post there as well now and then and so does Camickr and a few others here.

That comment was based on the OP's statement of blatant apathy. Tell me, would you tolerate apathy in a co-worker or your physician? If so, I hope you never get sick.
