    Default About Swing

    Hi folks,

    Debian 5.0

    I need to install Swing learning Java GUI.

    $ apt-cache search "java swing"
    Java Code:
    libilf-java - InfoNode Look and Feel
    libaccess-bridge-java - Java Access Bridge for GNOME
    libqdwizard-java - Simple Java Swing Wizard API
    libswirl-java-doc - swing enhancements library (API documentation)
    libswirl-java-gcj - swing enhancements library (native code)
    libswirl-java - swing enhancements library
    libtoolbar-java - extension of java swing component JToolBar
    liquidlnf - Java Swing Look and Feel of Mosfet Liquid KDE 3.x

    Whether to install;
    Java Code:
    libqdwizard-java - Simple Java Swing Wizard API
    libswirl-java-doc - swing enhancements library (API documentation)
    libswirl-java-gcj - swing enhancements library (native code)
    libswirl-java - swing enhancements library

    If I'm wrong please inform me. TIA

    A further question, NetBeans and Java Swing, which of them will be more suitable to me as a beginner in Java.

    If NetBeans is preferred. Then;

    $ apt-cache search netbeans
    Java Code:
    libswing-layout-java-doc - Extensions to Swing layout - contains Javadoc API documentation
    libswing-layout-java - Extensions to Swing layout
    netbeans-ide - IDE for Java Development and More, version 6 (IDE)
    netbeans-platform - IDE for Java Development and More, version 6 (platform foundation)

    Whether install netbeans-ide and netbears-platform? Any other packages are needed?

    TIA

    B.R.

    Why don't all the Swing classes come installed with your JSE core distribution? NetBeans can be installed when you have the core classes installed. All those separate libraries are new to me.

    kind regards,

    Jos

    Cross-posted in the Sun Java forum: Java Programming - About Swing

    OP, most folks here don't like to waste time duplicating effort by answering questions that have already been solved elsewhere. If you're going to cross-post, please at least be up front about it. Doing so will be greatly appreciated by many folks here, and the converse is also true.

    Luck.
