I personally like logic games such as chess, tic-tac-toe or wari etc. This is an excellent opportunity to create a generic evaluator (alpha-beta pruning or Shannon-B strategy, self-learning heuristics, you name it), a plugable move generator and view of the game. That way you can make an unbeatable program, no matter what game it is playing. This project is on my private to-do list to tell you the truth (I haven't even started yet ;-)

Ive been working on a tic-tac-toe game for the past 6 hours, got to finish the AI side. its not that hard so i would recommend starting with that :)

Hey clydedoris

For a person trying to exercise OO, try a game like Asteroids or one like this. It will test your OO and you can use some nice mathematics if you want to.
JosAH, I think learing algoritms would be a bit hardcore here. I haven't study them yet (aparently, they're not that difficult though), but for someone trying to practice OO: start simple. ;)

Personally I do this, honestly I'm copping those. Take around some other stuff on the web. In your case, you can find lots of games on the web (flash games specially). Just play few of them, and while playing those keep your eye. Grab the concepts only.

as i previously suggested in the java gaming section take a look.

actually some time back(3-4 weeks back). To kill my boredum i made a game called Space Invaders in java it worked pretty, its a pretty basic game just had a little trouble with it.

Then, with that motivation i made a game of poker. It was fun. I would suggest working on them. Just need a good idea of java api and loops and probably threads.

I read an article some time back about java gaming. This cleared my doubts on what to program games in java.
