What's the version you install? From where you find it? Did you try to download the latest JDK version from the Suns' official web site and install in your machine?

sorry XP has no User Account Control.
in vista, to turn off User Account Control, go to control panel, then user accounts, the click on "Turn User Account Control On or Off" then uncheck the box then restart.
but i'm using vista with UAC turned on by default and i got no problem as yours.. might as well check your installersLast edited by anthrax; 01-20-2010 at 07:16 AM.

How about installing an IDE with the JDK package. NetBeans is one of that, and I hope Eclipse comes with the JDK as well. Just give a try.
If you just post an image of the error message. May it can be helpful too.
