Default How to Set up my Java Compiler

    Hello everyone!

I guess my problem is not really a big one, but could anyone tell me exactly how I could use my java compiler?

    I installed jdk-6u2-windows-i586-p into C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\

But every time I would try to compile a Java program, it would always say, that javac isn't a recognized command. I already tried manipulating the environment variables thus changing the path, but still nothing happened. Could anyone help me please?

    Thanks!

For compilation you also need to install the jdk; the compiler is in its bin directory so you'd better set your path variable.

    kind regards,

Uh, thanks! But could you tell me how I should do that? I actually removed what I installed. I'm planning to just reinstall it after being able to get enough information..

Download your JDK here. The latest JDK is version 6, update 18. Let the installer do its work and after installation you have two sub directories: a JDK (the developement tools such as javac, the compiler) and a JRE (the runtime environement).

The JDK contains a sub directory 'bin' that contains the compiler and other handy tools. Make your path variable mention that sub directory.

    kind regards,

    Jos
