couldn't find the package java.lang

I've been trying to compile a simple .java file, but the compiler tells me it couldn't find the package java.lang;

I've tried setting the variable to the directory that contains all the header files but this messages still appears

Post the code you are trying to compile and show the command line you are using to compile you java code.

I solved my problem! I added the rt.jar file to the classpath variable
