    Default In love with gui

For the last 3 weeks ive felt like i was digging into infinity learning java from scratch and running into swing and GUI really motivated me. I have alot to play with and even if what im learning wont apply to learning mobile coding it should be good programming practice right?

1.My q's for today are swing is cool and all but , are there more open source GUI's i ask because i wanna make my own graphics for my programs.

2.How different is J2ME from reg java im learning now?

3.Android has its own GUI that i have to use right?

4.Can i take the swing GUI and switch out the images to make my own GUI?

5.Im using Dr.java and no layout editor or w.e its called ...is that bad?

im doing research as well on all these q's but its always good to get a human response to point me in the right direction for the day. Answer 1 or all . its all appreciated.

You can create any GUI you like, and there are open source GUI's available. CodeProject is a good place to start looking. And just to show that Java's not boring at all, take a look and my thread to see what can be done with simple AWT and Swing. ;)

Good luck with your research! ;)

J2ME is a tiny subset of the java class library, and has some unique features too. While the language is the same, learning j2me alone would not really expose one to all the java class library has to offer, but I imagine doing it the other way around would be simpler (java to j2me).

Don't forget the customizable Look And Feel for Swing; Swing delegates all of its drawing to a LAF object; there are several (free) LAFs around; google for "Lipstik" for example. There's a lot that can be done without writing completely new components for Swing. For starters read the API documentation for the LookAndFeel class.

    kind regards,

    Jos
