Installation problem---PLEASE HELP!!!
Hi!

When I recently tried to install java on my windows xp, The installation began, it showed me a dialog box asking if I'm sure I want to install it, then another dialog box comes up saying 'The installer cannot proceed with the current interent connection settings.' I can either press Retry or Cancel. Retry just brings up the message again. Ugh!! If any one could help, that would be SOO great!! Thanks!!

Sounds to me like you did not download the full installer. The full install is about 50 meg. Get that one and it should fix your problem.

I think you my have downloaded the partial installer that in turn tries to download the rest and it couldn't.

Just checked. What you want is the offline installation.

You need to download the offline installer.

First go to the java download page here

Select the download button next to "JDK 6 Update 2" (I assume this is the verison you want)

Then accept the license agreement and download this version:
"Windows Offline Installation (build 06), Multi-language"

It is the very first option. It is also ~65megs. Once it is downloaded you should be able to install it.
