    Question Install error JRE

I'm trying to install the latest Java runtime environment update on my Vista laptop and I get the error: 25099 message (core files unzip failure).

This is listed on the Java help site but neither of the suggested workarounds work. When I try to uninstall previous versions there is none listed either in Add/Remove programs on Control Panel or using the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility. Using ctrl-alt-del + processes, I can see that jqs.exe is not running. There are no further suggestions.

In Windows Explorer there are Java folders and subfolders and when working, I get occasional firewall alerts that JRE is trying to connect to the internet.

I'm not sure where to go from here!

That means that it is very likely that you do have the JRE installed.

Thanks. Yes, sure. That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that it doesn't show up in the programs list, I can't uninstall it in order to clear the error and reinstall the updated version and therefore the update consistently fails.
I'm reasonable computer-savvy and manage most of these things without a problem but I just can't see a way forward here.

Have you tried using JavaRa 1.15 tool.. hope you have.. else give it a go :)

"What JavaRa does is to check if your computer has the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

If the version you have installed has been superseded by a newer version the program will download and install this newer version for you, by running Java's update program.

JavaRa then allows you to remove all possible older versions of this program. This way it will ensure that the security of your PC is enhanced will create extra space on your hard disk."

This was the description of the tool at softpedia..:)

I hadn't used JavaRa but I have now! It took a bit of messing about and removing a few files by hand but in the end it did the trick. I now have up to date JRE installed. Many thanks for the help and advice.
